La Rada – Spazio per l’arte contemporanea è lieta di invitarvi all’ultimo appuntamento del programma espositivo OUTSIDE OF US per l’anno 2025.
Sabato 8 novembre inaugura EMBODIED SURFACES, una mostra collettiva organizzata da Deiara Semeco Kouto e Rafael Kouto, che riunisce le opere di Isatou Jallow, Nina Emge, Jamal Nxedlan, Yul Tomatala, Manutcher Milani e Sebastián Dávila.

Dopo Unseen Reconstructions (2023) e An Elusive Elsewhere (2024), EMBODIED SURFACES conclude il ciclo espositivo a La Rada. Le opere in mostra interrogano la percezione visiva, proponendo illusioni ottiche e slittamenti sensoriali che invitano lo spettatore a mettere in discussione i propri modi di vedere e di esperire la realtà.

L’edizione di quest’anno affronta il tema della memoria collettiva all’interno della diaspora, indagando il ruolo della percezione e del tatto nella costruzione dell’esperienza. Il focus è posto sulla capacità di percepire il corpo — il corpo in movimento, il corpo come archivio — esplorando come il contatto fisico e mentale plasmi e riformi la nostra presenza nel mondo, l’associazione di una seconda pelle o alla creazione di corpi scolpiti dalla propria identità e vissuto personale.

Partendo dal principio secondo cui vivere significa percepire lo spazio e, allo stesso tempo, spaziare nel tempo, EMBODIED SURFACES libera le energie dei corpi che percepiscono, si trasformano e si fanno movimento.

La Rada – Space for Contemporary Art is pleased to invite you to the final event of the 2025 exhibition program OUTSIDE OF US.
On Saturday, November 8, the collective exhibition EMBODIED SURFACES opens, organized by Deiara Semeco and Rafael Kouto, bringing together works by Isatou Jallow, Nina Emge, Jamal Nxedlan, Yul Tomatala, Manutcher Milani, and Sebastián Dávila.

Following Unseen Reconstructions (2023) and An Elusive Elsewhere (2024), EMBODIED SURFACES concludes the exhibition cycle at La Rada.
The works on display challenge visual perception through optical illusions and sensory shifts, inviting viewers to question their own ways of seeing and experiencing reality.

This year’s edition addresses the theme of collective memory within the diaspora, investigating the role of perception and touch in the construction of experience. The focus is on the ability to perceive the body—the body in motion, the body as an archive—exploring how physical and mental contact shapes and reshapes our presence in the world, giving their works the association of a second skin or the creation of bodies sculpted by their own identity and personal experience.

Starting from the principle that living means perceiving space and, at the same time, moving through time, EMBODIED SURFACES unleashes the energies of bodies that perceive, transform, and become movement.

The exhibition also emphasizes the empowerment of diasporic people and the use of perception through visible and tactile textiles. Textiles, understood as a second skin, envelop our bodies in motion: they protect us, separate us, and, at the same time, connect us. Through every act of approach and creation, a world is generated in which identity, mind, and geography merge, and in which the body itself becomes a space for experimentation.
